AFP Houston April 2026 Education SessionWednesday, April 8, 2026 Location: Title: Donor-Advised Fund Essentials Session Description: Join us to maximize the power of Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)! DAFs are gaining popularity as a giving strategy in the United States, with rapid growth in both users and assets. However, many fundraisers lack clarity on how exactly they work and their benefits. This workshop will go deeper on how DAFs work and give you 4 CFRE Credits in the process! Online registration for this event is closed. Speakers: Dr. Sandra G. Ehrlich, CFRE, and Mark Johnston A preeminent leader in the philanthropic sector, Dr. Sandra G. Ehrlichi's a management, leadership, and fund development consultant with more than 35 years of increasing responsibility in the private and public sector. As President of Sandra Ehrlich Consulting, LLC, she assesses, guides, and moves national corporate and nonprofit clients to a higher level of achievement and performance. Working alongside her clients, she has raised more than $100 million for worthy causes. Sandra is a Past President of the AFP Alaska Chapter. For her vital contributions and exemplary leadership, she received the coveted Outstanding Professional in Philanthropy award from the AFP Alaska Chapter. An AFP Certified Facilitator and dedicated nonprofit advocate, Sandra is a catalyst for excellence. As Alaska’s CFRE International Ambassador, she advises, supports, and mentors fundraising professionals across Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Mark Johnston’s career has sat at the intersection of teaching, nonprofit leadership, and public policy. Impact and community have always been his guiding lights. Mark began his career as a high school English teacher at Cesar Chavez Public Charter School and KIPP College Prep in Washington, DC. In this role, he assisted the Executive Director and Chief Program Officer in transforming Matriculate from a concept into a fully-formed program that served students nationwide and operated at six college campuses. Mark then served as the Director of Trainings at 50CAN, an education advocacy organization, where he oversaw all internal and external training programs and sat on the organizational leadership team. Following this, Mark joined the Policy and Advocacy team at Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) as a Director. In this role, he built out virtual content, including e-courses, to support LEE members interested in pursuing a career in policy and advocacy. In 2022, Mark launched The Policy + Strategy Collaborative, where he offers high-quality, individualized support in strategic planning, facilitation, research, and copywriting. His clients have included Teach For America, Common Threads, and Valley Leadership Arizona. Mark’s work is grounded in equity and best practices in research, while also reflecting the practical lessons learned from over a decade of leading impact-focused initiatives. Mark holds a Bachelor's Degree in History from Chapman University and Master’s Degrees in Public Policy and Education from American University.
