AFP Scholarship Spotlight: Don’L Nicol, Manager of Annual Giving & Stewardship, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast

AFP Greater Houston’s National Philanthropy Day helps fund scholarships for deserving professionals throughout Greater Houston who want to take the next step in their fundraising careers. In this feature, we are highlighting Don’L Nicol, Manager of Annual Giving & Stewardship at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.

Don’L has a decade of experience working in annual and capital fundraising. Her most notable fundraising efforts have included gift management for a $2 million capital campaign that resulted in the first LGBTQ+-affirming affordable senior housing facility in Texas, urgent disaster relief response fundraising in response to Hurricane Harvey, special events guest management, annual giving, third party events, donor data management and stewardship program management.

Because of the generosity of the AFP Greater Houston chapter, Don’L was able to attend the Ask the Experts conference in June of 2022. Don’L shares about her experience: “Not only were the sessions so relevant to me that I had a hard time choosing which ones to attend, but I had the opportunity to meet and learn from leaders in our profession, some of whom I am not connected with and still speak with from time to time.”

As Don’L is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management at the University of Houston - Downtown, to be completed by May 2024. The scholarship awarded through AFP helps to elevate her career and professional growth.
