Barrett and Susan Reasoner Named 2025 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraisers

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Houston Chapter is proud to recognize Barrett and Susan Reasoner as the 2025 recipients of the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award, to be celebrated at the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon.

For more than three decades, Barrett and Susan have combined their talents, leadership, and generosity to make a lasting difference in Houston. Well known in the city’s legal and nonprofit communities, the Reasoners have invested in causes ranging from education and youth programs to legal services and the arts.

Their volunteer leadership with BakerRipley demonstrates the depth of their impact. When asked to chair the BakerRipley Experience: Legacy of Service, Barrett and Susan turned the event into an unforgettable night. They recruited Secretary James A. Baker and his wife as honorary co-chairs, secured a dynamic host committee, and mobilized their friends and colleagues to get involved. The event drew more than 380 guests,40% of them new to BakerRipley, and raised $575,000 for critical services.

For Teach for America Houston, they co-chaired the 30th anniversary celebration during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. By reimagining the gala as an outdoor stadium event with family-friendly activities, they raised $750,000 and brought renewed energy to TFA’s mission of educational equity.

Barrett’s commitment to the legal profession has also fueled significant fundraising achievements. As president of the Houston Bar Association and later as chair of the Houston Bar Foundation, he championed pro bono legal services and launched the Kay Sim Endowment, raising $1.7 million to ensure sustainable support for Houston Volunteer Lawyers. His ability to bring together colleagues from across the legal spectrum reflects both his professional excellence and his deep respect within the community.

As one colleague noted, “Barrett and Susan have always fought for people in need—and they’re stronger as a team.” Their shared commitment to service, coupled with their ability to inspire others, has made them one of Houston’s most impactful philanthropic partnerships.

Join us in celebrating Barrett and Susan Reasoner and all of our 2025 honorees at the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon.
