What does CFRE certified mean to you?

To me, the CFRE certification is an embodiment of the fundraiser’s dedication to making the world a better place, by exhibiting excellence in and commitment to the profession.

Why you decided to get CFRE certified?

I’ve wanted to become certified for a long time, but always managed to put it off. If the COVID pandemic has taught me nothing else, it’s taught me to seize the moment, to focus on the people and experiences that give me joy, and to always remember to give back. I love the work I do as a fundraiser—more than ever in these trying times—so what better way to express that commitment to myself, and to my community, than by finally getting my CFRE.

What was your favorite part about the process?

I’ve been in fundraising for many years and always thought that, due to the particular types of roles I’ve had, I didn’t have enough knowledge in some key areas to consider undertaking such a rigorous exam. When I started working on the practice test and realized that I knew a lot more than I thought I did, my confidence shot up. That was fun!

Why would you recommend other fundraising professionals to consider a CFRE certification?

It is an internationally recognized testament to your expertise, in a profession that doesn’t necessarily require a specific type of degree or credential. It’s also a great confidence-booster and a great way to celebrate all you’ve learned in your career.

"Studying for and achieving my CFRE has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my professional career. Dedicating time each day and week to learning and applying the best practices in fundraising has strengthened my commitment to the profession. I would encourage anyone interested in pursuing this certification to go for it! AFP-GHC was a huge resource and support system as I navigated the various study materials. I am so proud of this accomplishment, and I look forward to having the CFRE serve me in my career growth and serve the missions and causes I believe in."
