Houston Texans Foundation Named 2025 Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Houston Chapter is proud to honor the Houston Texans Foundation as the 2025 recipient of the Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation Award, to be celebrated at this year’s National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon.

Since its founding in 2002, the Houston Texans Foundation has raised more than $50 million to strengthen our community, support youth development, and break down barriers to essential resources. Guided by the belief that giving back is at the heart of the Texans organization, the Foundation continues to show how the power of generosity can transform lives across Houston.

One of the Foundation’s most impactful partnerships has been with DePelchin Children’s Center. As the charitable beneficiary of the Texas Bowl since 2006, DePelchin has received more than $2.7 million in direct financial support, along with priceless promotional visibility and unforgettable experiences for children and families. From DePelchin Field Day to free game tickets, the partnership has created memories that strengthen family bonds while raising awareness of the needs of vulnerable children.

The Houston Texans Foundation has also become a trailblazer in expanding opportunities for young women through its Girls Flag Football Program. Launched in 2023, the initiative has already raised more than $1.5 million to expand girls’ flag football to all 25 HISD high schools, and more than 86 schools across Texas. Earlier this year, more than 100 student-athletes showcased their skills at the second annual Girls Flag College Showcase. With its “She’s Next” campaign and investment in state-of-the-art protective headgear, the program is setting new standards in safety, equity, and empowerment for female athletes.

“By covering costs for coaching, transportation, uniforms, and equipment, the Texans ensure that nothing stands in the way of girls who want to play,” said one program leader. This commitment has inspired other organizations and schools to invest in equitable opportunities for young women in sports.

Beyond sports, the Texans Foundation is deeply invested in Houston’s neighborhoods. In Sunnyside, they’ve helped close the third grade reading gap by providing 600 books and boosting attendance by 25%. In Magnolia Park, they distributed more than 6,500 meals and 2,500 pairs of shoes to students. In Greenspoint, they provided career exploration for 400 middle schoolers and essential school supplies for hundreds of children. These programs show how the Foundation pairs vision with action, ensuring families have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
