Being in ‘Right’ Relationship: Navigating Power Dynamics with Community-Centric Fundraising
 
In the complex landscape of nonprofit fundraising, the challenge often lies not just in securing resources but in navigating the intricate power dynamics and equity considerations that come with donor relationships. Community-Centric Fundraising (CCF) emerges as a compass, leading us on a path to shift from traditional donor-centric models to practices rooted in equity, social justice, and collective care.
Outcomes: Participants will leave with an understanding of: 1. The Core of CCF: Unpack the background, principles, and transformative potential of Community-Centric Fundraising, contrasting it with traditional donor-centric methodologies. 2. Your Intersection of Power: Recognize your seat of power and how to leverage the unique seat of a fundraiser. Specific and real-world examples of work changes will be shared! 3. Strategic Reimagining: Critically reflect on how to reengineer fundraising strategies in your shop and walk away with key discussion questions for your team. Join us as we navigate the path to a more equitable fundraising future, where every stakeholder's voice is valued, and philanthropy is rooted in reciprocity, collective care and interconnectedness.
 
Speaker: Michelle Flores Vryn, CFRE 
Bio: With 15+ years in nonprofit work, Michelle has led both fundraising and communications teams and worked in organizations with revenue goals ranging from $400,000 to $20 million. She has worked in missions focused on endangered species, disaster relief, and nature education and has gained a deep and varied background, from major gifts and institutional giving to digital fundraising strategies. Michelle tends to step outside of the traditional boundaries, championing a future where nonprofit work is regenerative, steadfastly advocating for Community-Centered Fundraising (CCF) and sharing nonprofit memes to lighten the stress on social changemakers. Michelle’s mantra of “building tomorrow by investing in nonprofits today” reflects her deep conviction that nonprofits are not just societal contributors but the very foundation of our future. Beyond professional roles, she is an ardent advocate for fellow BIPOC professionals and a mentor. Michelle serves on the boards of Mission Capital and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Global and co-organizes the Texas chapter of the CCF movement. She holds a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential and a master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology, focusing on environmental conservation. Away from work, Michelle finds joy in long walks with her dogs Sandy, Maya and Maggie, daily meditation, and Austin's vibrant live music scene.
